| Dave Deveau is a playwright, librettist, screenwriter,
dramaturg, and songwriter. |

His plays include The Fat Kid Dreams (Kids Help Phone Tour),
Ugly Girl (Rhubarb! Festival), Echoing (York University), Cannibal
Heat (Buddies in Bad Times), Nelly, part of The Demonstration
(Theatre Direct), which was recently published by Playwrights
Canada Press in the anthology Acting Out: Scenes and Monologues from Theatre Direct Plays for Youth, Declining (Brave New Play Rites),
And they all lived… (Playwrights Theatre Centre). In a collective
model, he has written Rule of Thumb (York University) and an
undershirt (Toronto Fringe Festival). |

| As a librettist, his short operas Rest in Peace (with composer Aaron Gervais) and Unfamiliar (with composer Darren Fung) ("a promising text" –Globe and Mail) were commissioned and produced by Tapestry New Opera Works last year. With composer Njo Kong Kie, Dave wrote the song There's a Man in There for Forte - The Toronto Men's Chorus, and has started writing country songs in addition to developing his new musical. |

| With his company Thirty Below Theatre, Dave
translated/directed the English world premiere of Michel
Tremblay's The Train and created the short film Belly which is
now circulating festivals worldwide and has been screened on
four continents. His latest play Nelly Boy opened at Tarragon
Theatre in August 2007 as part of the SummerWorks Festival ("an emotionally powerful play" –Lynn Slotkin, CBC Radio). |

As dramaturg, Dave worked on Tarragon Theatre's production of
Michel Tremblay's Past Perfect, as part of CanStage's inaugural
Festival of Ideas & Creation, as well as one-on-one with
countless playwrights. He is currently working in tandem on
several projects including his musical Homecoming King, a play
about senior citizen swingers called How Sweet It Is, and his
thesis play Map of the West. |

He holds a BFA from York University and is currently working
toward his MFA in Playwriting at UBC, where he has just been
awarded a University Graduate Fellowship. |
